Located within Kota Damansara, this neighborhood is a quiet and established landed residential area. It sets gently apart from the township’s busier main areas. Surrounded by nearby playgrounds, the streets carry a warm and family-friendly charm, creating a welcoming environment for children to grow and play. Masjid and schools are just a short distance away, bringing moments of liveliness during peak hours. They also add to the everyday convenience that makes the area especially suited for family living.

Adding a deeper layer of meaning, the home is thoughtfully positioned right beside the client’s parents’ house. This close proximity allows for a balance of independence and connection, offering the comfort of having loved ones just next door, while still enjoying the privacy of one’s own home.

It was an old house, of more than two-decades old. The home front façade was carefully revitalized to improve both function and first impressions. The original rough concrete car porch floor was replaced with concrete imprint finish, creating a cleaner and more durable surface for vehicle parking while elevating the overall exterior.

Living Room

The interior unfolds through a Japandi minimalist approach, as the client set out to breathe new life into the space. Guided by a desire for comfort and tranquility, the home is reimagined into a calm, understated haven, where simplicity, warmth, and thoughtful design come together in perfect balance.

The living space was thoughtfully opened up by replacing a small window with a full-height sliding door, allowing natural light to gently fill the room and create a brighter, more spacious atmosphere. The TV cabinet anchors the living area, where full-height paneling is paired with subtle groove lines to create depth and a refined sense of character. This understated detail gently elevates the space, enhancing its overall ambience with a quiet sense of sophistication. At the foyer, a full-height shoe cabinet paired with a floating ledge keeps everyday essentials like shoes and keys neatly organized, maintaining a clean and clutter-free setting.

Throughout the home, the original floor tiles were replaced with SPC flooring, chosen for its durability, waterproof qualities, and overall practicality. The finish extends seamlessly up the staircase, while the handrail is refinished in a darker tone to add contrast and depth. This cohesive flooring choice ties the interior together, subtly enhancing the wall finishes and built-in elements, and creating a clean, unified look across the entire home.

The master bedroom is designed as a spacious retreat, providing ample space for both comfort and storage. To accommodate the client’s need for a private study area, the layout thoughtfully embraces an existing protruding corner near the window. Transforming it into a long, functional work zone. A dual-seating desk with built-in drawers provides generous storage for daily essentials. While the side casement window invites natural light and fresh air, creating a bright and comfortable environment for work and rest.

Along the entrance wall, a full-height wardrobe extends across the space. Evoking the feel of a walk-in closet while maintaining a clean and seamless look. Finished in soft neutral tones, the design is elevated with subtle details—slim black handles and delicate groove lines that add a refined touch. A woodgrain laminate introduces warmth to the open shelving, offering easy access to everyday items. From bedtime reads to personal accessories, completing the room with both function and quiet sophistication.

The bathroom was gently refreshed with soft grey tiles and a built-in quartz vanity, bringing in a clean and understated elegance. A mirrored cabinet runs along the wall, discreetly concealing storage while subtly reflecting light to create a brighter and more open feel.

A glass partition is quietly introduced at the shower area near the toilet entrance, helping to contain splashes and keep the rest of the space dry. This subtle detail enhances everyday comfort while maintaining a calm and uncluttered atmosphere.

Dining Area & Kitchen

To achieve a smoother and more intuitive flow, the layout was thoughtfully reconfigured by swapping the original kitchen and guest room. The new kitchen now opens seamlessly to the dining area, framed by a soft arch that subtly connects the spaces while enhancing the sense of openness and width. This reimagined arrangement allows the home to feel more spacious, fluid, and welcoming for everyday living.

The kitchen cabinet is finished in soft beige tones, complemented by a marble countertop and backsplash that bring a gentle sense of refinement to the space. A fake beam is introduced to conceal the hood ducting, maintaining a clean ceiling line while supporting a smoother ventilation flow, with integrated lighting softly illuminating the workspace. At the sink, a larger basin is paired with dual cold-water taps, thoughtfully designed to support the client’s daily routines and make washing up more efficient and comfortable.

The kitchen storage is thoughtfully composed with a mix of compartments and concealed solutions, creating a space that feels both organized and effortless. A hidden pantry is seamlessly tucked behind a swing open slot-in door, keeping essentials out of sight while remaining easily accessible. LED power tracks are integrated along the workspace, allowing everyday appliances such as the kettle, toaster, and water dispenser to be used with ease. An additional drawer tower is introduced to neatly house dry goods, from pasta to canned items and jars, ensuring everything has its place. Subtle details, like slim black pull handles and open shelving finished in warm woodgrain laminate; they add a gentle layer of character, bringing warmth and liveliness to the overall kitchen design.

Backyard

At the backyard was extended to create a dedicated laundry and drying area, thoughtfully designed to remain connected to both the kitchen and guest room through sliding doors on either side. This allows for a smooth and practical flow between spaces while maintaining flexibility in use. Covered with an ACP and glass awning, the area feels light and airy while being well-protected, bringing together functionality and a clean, cohesive finish that complements the overall design.

Guest Room & Bathroom

The former kitchen was thoughtfully transformed into a welcoming guest room, designed with the client’s parents in mind. A built-in wardrobe with open shelving offers both storage and a subtle display for personal belongings, all while maintaining a simple, safe, and comfortable environment for their stay.

The adjoining bathroom was carefully reconfigured to support accessibility, featuring a wider entrance and a gentle ramp for wheelchair access. Fixtures were installed at considered heights to allow ease of use, while switches throughout the room and bathroom are positioned lower for convenient reach ensuring the space remains both functional and dignified for independent use.

Mezzanine at Family Area

Upon entering the first floor, the space opens up to a double-volume ceiling, setting a sense of openness throughout the home. To make full use of this height, a mezzanine level was introduced. Designed as a private mini lounge and a functional workspace for the family. Cantilevered stairs lead up to the mezzanine, offering a light and minimal presence while maximizing the use of space without adding visual bulk.

Finished in clean white tones, the mezzanine feels bright and airy, with soft LED lighting enhancing its spacious quality. Existing upper windows are retained to allow natural light to filter through, ensuring the area remains well-lit and inviting. To maintain comfort without compromising openness, air conditioning is thoughtfully integrated, creating a cozy yet breathable retreat above.
